Project Scope: Produce a series of paintings for the newly built practice wing at the performing arts center.
Rite of Passage
This project is a visualization of math and connected sensory relations of color to sound and is an exploration of these factor’s relationship to music.
Each painting in this series is developed from the chords (typically 2) that appear in each measure. From these chords, there are two abstract factors that drive each composition. The first factor is the sine wave for the chord itself. The second factor are the colors that typically arise from those notes when observed by an individual who has chromesthesia: a type of synesthesia that causes individuals with this sensory connection to see colors in relation to sounds. The dominant color in each painting is be based on the root note of each chord and the typical color associated with it.
All 7 paintings are 36” wide X 24” tall.
